Loaves & Fishes feeds the Carrollton community

It’s important to the Carrollton community that everyone — young or old, alone or with family— should have the opportunity to go to bed with a full stomach.

Pastor Gordon Warner, a minister at a local church, lends his administrative skills to the local food pantry, Loaves & Fishes. He expressed his gratitude that Carroll County Energy chooses to donate locally rather than to a larger organization. “Circumstances don’t always allow direct appropriation of funds from larger corporations to local programs,” Pastor Warner said. “This way, we know the donations will make it to Carrollton people in need.”

The Sisters of Charity donate their facility rent free to Loaves & Fishes. Approximately 83 percent of donations are used to procure food and the rest goes toward operating costs. “This differs from larger organizations in the Akron/Canton area, and ensures that your donation reaches and helps local residents,” Warner said.

Pastor Warner makes it his mission to provide a little something extra for the families and individuals in need, by distributing hams for holiday dinners. While Loaves & Fishes does a lot of wonderful things during the holiday season, the pantry is busy throughout the year, helping more than 350 local families and procuring approximately $4,500 a month in food from the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.

Loaves & Fishes is just one example of how the Carrollton community takes care of its own.
