Carroll County Energy and Bechtel employees volunteer at Tots for Tots event

During the holiday season each year Carroll County Energy employees volunteer at a local branch of Toys for Tots, a program that was the vision of Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks. Toys for Tots is a nationally acclaimed program where stores, churches and school districts participate in toy drives for less fortunate children.

Carrollton, like so many other communities, has families in need of a helping hand over the holiday season. Carroll County Energy made a monetary donation to Ms. Crystal Day (Toys for Tots Community Coordinator) at the Carroll Hills School Christmas Show. Later that day, Carroll County Energy employees, alongside Bechtel employees, donated their time to help parents in need pick out presents for their kids at the Carroll Hills School.

There was an assortment of gifts for children ranging in age from newborn to 17 years. Each child received one large gift, two smaller gifts, a game, stuffed animal and stocking stuffers. Volunteers escorted parents around, talked with them and carried the toys for them in a bag. The stronger volunteers were readily available to carry items out to vehicles.

In a time and place where people are unable to provide as much as they would like for their children at Christmas, the community comes together and tries to make the season a little brighter. It would be easy to look away but the people of this community always come together for the greater good. There is a great sense of pride in the community and people don’t just talk about problems, they help each other.

The group of volunteers agreed that they all took a lesson from the Carrollton community in volunteering their time to help local families make Christmas a little brighter for their children.
