Carroll County Energy LLC is pleased to announce that construction of its 700-megawatt natural gas fired electric generation facility being located approximately 2.5 miles north of Carrollton is proceeding on schedule.
Bechtel Power, Corp, a world class construction contractor selected by Carroll County Energy, is engineering and building the facility under an Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract. Bechtel brings expertise gained from its experience at the forefront of the power industry for more than 60 years, including extensive work in natural gas fired power generation projects. Construction is ongoing and will continue through December 2017. At the peak of construction activity, up to 700 workers will be employed at the site.
An on-site 345 thousand volt switchyard facility, an integral piece for the Energy facility built by Kenny Constructors, was recently completed ahead of schedule and energized.
The major phases of the approximately 32 month construction period are summarized below. Status is as of late June, 2016.
Earthwork (April 2015 - September 2015) - Activities to include mobilization, site preparations, earthwork and fencing. Completed
Underground Utilities (August 2015 - December 2015) - Installation of underground utilities on site, including gas and water pipelines. Completed
Offsite Utility Interconnections (October 2015 – October 2016) - Construction of interconnections into the electrical transmission system, the interstate gas pipeline system and the Village of Carrollton Water Treatment Plant. In Progress
Foundations (December 2015 - July 2016) - Pouring of foundations for major equipment including Combustion Turbines, Steam Turbine, Air Cooled Condenser, Heat Recovery Steam Generators and Switchyard. Completed
Equipment Installation (May 2016 - August 2017) - Installation of major equipment including Combustion Turbines, Steam Turbine, Air Cooled Condenser, Heat Recovery Steam Generators and Switchyard. In Progress
Startup & Commissioning (December 2016 - December 2017) - Testing of all major systems and interconnections. After completion of testing, start of commercial operations.
